ElizabethElizabeth Darling: On the Right Path

Elizabeth Darling was moved by a sermon at a Baptist church in Newark last Sunday about the struggles that make you stronger. Ms. Darling had enough struggles to turn her into Superwoman. She was the single mother of a 2-year-old boy. She feared being laid off from her job as a business analyst at Marsh & McLennan, a financial services conglomerate. She worried about her mortgage payments. The daughter of a minister, Ms. Darling, 28, was a spiritual person. She spoke to her best friend, Toyia Burks, about the sermon, and was surprised to learn that Ms. Burks had heard a similar sermon. It seemed to tell Ms. Darling that she was on the right path. "She was going through a lot of transition and just trying to find a balance," Ms. Burks said. "She reached back to her Christian roots."
