Craig Gibson: Treats for Daisy

CraigCraig Gibson had a number of keen interests, starting with soccer (he played for a Manhattan team called Barnestonworth, but rooted for Liverpool) and continuing with the movies. (He had to be the first to see a new release, and there had to be plenty of popcorn on hand.) And he loved his wife, Dannielle, with whom he immigrated from Australia last December.

But beginning in August, he had a new focus: Daisy, the boxer puppy he gave his wife for her birthday. "He was so obsessed with this dog," marveled Mrs. Gibson. At the office, where Mr. Gibson, 37, was a reinsurance broker for Marsh & McLennan, "instead of doing work he'd be on the Internet, looking up pet stores and buying treats for her." Sometimes he would come home in the middle of the day to take Daisy for a walk.

It was hardly a one-sided affair. "She used to sleep on his slippers every night, with her little nose tucked into one of them and her paws over the top," Mrs. Gibson said. "She was mad about him."
